The road loop
Four roles, four rhythms.
- DriverPre-trip
- →Pre-trip checklist (PASS / FAIL / NA per item) — DirtFleet's checklist is for shop accountability, NOT a substitute for the FMCSA-prescribed DVIR.
- →Scan QR on the dash → log-mileage screen.
- →Capture odometer or photo the dash; on-device OCR reads the number.
- DriverEnd of shift
- →Same scan → final reading.
- →Optional fuel fill capture (volume + cost) for spot-check fuel-economy on the maintenance side.
- →Optional voice note ('exhaust brake felt soft on the down-grade').
- MechanicDaily queue review
- →/work-orders sorted by priority + due date.
- →Driver pre-trip FAILs auto-spawned WOs from the night before.
- →Mileage-based PM thresholds (every 25k mi for an oil change on a Cummins ISX) auto-flag.
- Fleet managerMonthly
- →Cost-per-mile leaderboard (analogous to cost-per-hour for off-road).
- →Cross-reference with DOT inspection findings (manual today; ELD partner integration roadmap).
- →Run the certified-payroll export for any DOT-funded haul jobs.
Pair with
What runs alongside DirtFleet.
Trucking software is a bundle. Here's how the pieces fit when DirtFleet is the maintenance + tools + work-order layer.
Certified ELD provider
DirtFleet does NOT replace your ELD (Motive, Samsara, Garmin Drive 200, etc.). Pair them. Our hour-based PM thresholds work alongside the ELD's HOS log; we never duplicate the regulated data.
Fuel card processor
WEX, Comdata, EFS — pull receipts in via the public API or CSV import. We surface fuel cost in the per-asset cost-per-mile rollup.
DOT inspection workflow
External today. We capture inspection results in the Incident module + asset notes. Roadmap: pulling inspection events from a DOT-aware ELD via webhook.
Honest scope
What we explicitly don't do.
- FMCSA-certified ELD or HOS — pair with a certified provider. See vs Motive.
- IFTA mileage apportionment — captured via HoursLog (which doubles as odometer log for ODOMETER-meter assets). Export feeds your IFTA filer; we don't file for you.
- Drug + alcohol consortium reporting — track operator certifications including post-accident testing dates; consortium reporting is your D&A vendor.
Mixed fleet?
DirtFleet for the iron, ELD for the road.
If you have 10 pickups + 5 dump trucks + 8 yellow iron, DirtFleet covers the maintenance side for all of them; the regulated stuff stays with your ELD.
