QR label spec sheet
A label that fades or peels off after three months is worse than no label — drivers stop trusting the scan. This is the spec we publish with every tool tracking starter kit, after burning through 4 vendors.

Recommended printers
- Zebra ZT411 / ZT421 — industrial workhorse, 4" or 6" web, takes resin ribbons, exists in every warehouse for a reason. ~$1,500–2,500.
- Brady BBP12 / S3000 — alternative if you already buy Brady supplies; slightly easier UI.
- Avoid: consumer label printers (Brother QL series, Dymo). Direct-thermal output fades; not built for industrial environments.

How DirtFleet uses these labels
Every Tool and Asset in DirtFleet has a unique scan token (URL-safe, 22 chars). The /api/tools/[id]/qr and /api/assets/[id]/qr endpoints return print-ready PNG / SVG. Print on the standard-duty stock above; affix; scan opens the right action page (log hours for equipment, damage report for tools).
