Industry deep dive

Logging, offline-first.

Logging operations run on iron that lives in dead zones. Skidders, harvesters, forwarders, log-trucks — DirtFleet's offline outbox + scan-to-action UI is built for the reality that connectivity is intermittent and the operator's hands are gloved.

The cut loop

Five roles, one offline-first app.

  1. Operator (skidder / harvester)Pre-shift
    • Open the PWA on the cab tablet — works offline; shell already cached.
    • Scan the QR sticker on the cab → log-hours screen.
    • Pre-trip checklist (chain tension, fluid levels, hose integrity).
    • Final pre-trip taps queue locally — sync when the truck heads back to the landing.
  2. OperatorEnd of shift
    • Same scan → final reading.
    • Optional: capture chain-saw consumables note (fuel mix, bar oil, sharpening).
    • If a hose ruptured on the slope, photo + flag — auto-spawns a yellow WO at the shop.
  3. MechanicDaily / weekly
    • WO queue sorted by priority. Skidders + harvesters dominate the high-priority lane.
    • Hour-based PMs hit fast on logging iron — 250-hour intervals are normal, not annual.
    • Tigercat LogOn API integration on the roadmap; today, hours sync via AEMP-generic adapter when the OEM exposes it.
  4. Log-truck driverPer haul
    • Scan dash QR → log-mileage + load (tonnage + species + landing → mill).
    • HaulCycle captures load + dump location + tonnage for productivity rollup.
    • Pair with a certified ELD for HOS / DOT compliance on regulated routes.
  5. Forester / supervisorWeekly
    • Open /projects → see hours-by-asset + repair-spend per harvest unit.
    • Cross-reference cycle counts against scaled tonnage.
    • Spot-check operator certifications (state-specific cutter cards, first aid).

Logging-specific support

What we built for this market.

  • Offline-first PWA: skidders work in dead zones; the IndexedDB outbox drains when the operator drives back to the landing.
  • Tigercat is on the OEM registry; AEMP-generic adapter pulls hours via ISO 15143-3 today, dedicated LogOn API integration is roadmap.
  • Tool tracking handles the chains, files, depth gauges, and bar oil — every cut crew has a kit that walks off without scan discipline.
  • Chainsaw consumable tracking via the consumable flag on Tool (stockLevel ticks down with each issue).
  • Forest-road incident logging via the Incident module — captures the slip-and-fall on the landing for OSHA prep.

Honest scope

What we don't replace.

  • Forest mensuration / scaling software — out of scope. We capture HaulCycle tonnage as a productivity metric, not a scaling system.
  • SFI / FSC chain-of-custody auditing — not in scope.
  • Mill-side ticket reconciliation — capture haul cycles in DirtFleet; pull mill tickets via the public API or CSV.

Ready?

30 days free — bring your iron.

If you're running Tigercat / Cat / John Deere harvesters and skidders, the OEM registry has you covered for hours sync. Bring the rest in via CSV during onboarding.
